My name is Lori Rotterman, vice president of the Dayton Metro Library Staff Association, and it is in that capacity which I speak to you today.
We would first like to thank the director, Mr. Kambitsch, and the Board President, Ms. Merz, for their attendance at our recent Staff Association meeting to discuss the facilities planning process. We appreciate that they were willing to give up time on a Sunday to meet with us.
A week ago yesterday, Tim Kambitsch came to the DMLSA Executive Council meeting and discussed the building plan with us. Tim was very informative, and very open with respect to the plan. We left the meeting with a few impressions:
Hello, my name is Rich Robinson. I am president of the Dayton Metro Library Staff Association and it is in that role that I address you today.
Last week, I returned from the winter conference of the Working Assembly of Governmental Employees, or WAGE. WAGE is an organization of independent unions who share information, ideas, and support with our fellow members. Part of WAGE includes reports from each member organization.
I opened the DMLSA segment with a joke that went like this:
Q: What’s the difference between a librarian and a large pizza?
A: A large pizza can feed a family of four.
My name is Lori Rotterman, I am Vice-President of the Dayton Metro Library Staff Association, and it is in that capacity which I speak to you today.
It was with outrage and dismay that I heard the Board’s decision at your last meeting concerning the raise and bonus being offered to the Executive Director. While this is in no way an indication of how I feel personally about the director or his performance, I feel the board was remiss in their duty when they awarded him a raise and a bonus which were triple what our bargaining unit members received.
